New Episode: Examining the Need for Enterprise Innovation and How Payroll Can Lead the Way, with Sierra Cedar

Part 2 of our special Payday conversation with Stacey Harris of Sierra Cedar is now live and full of even more groundbreaking insights into the joint future of global payroll and HR.

In Part 1 : "Surviving HR Transformation" Stacey unpacked some of the findings from Sierra Cedar’s 21st annual HR Systems Survey, including the news that up to 20% of organizations which undergo HR transformations end up reducing roles in payroll. As she explained further in the episode, however, what appear to be reductions in one area of payroll are tending to open up new possibilities in other, often more impactful areas.

“What we’re finding when we go in and talk to organizations a little bit more about their HR transformation efforts,” Stacey says, “is it’s not always that they’re reducing staff overall. What we’re finding is that they’re shifting staff into more strategic roles.”

Central to this shift is what Stacey refers to as the “second wave” of consumerization of enterprise technology: the movement of corporate information systems toward self-service applications to improve data accuracy and accessibility. And as she explains, payroll professionals are uniquely positioned to help shape the use of those systems going forward.

“The payroll function deals with more data and more transactions than any other function int he HR environment, and their ability to manage that amount of data and understand the flow of it is a valuable detail in their skillset that often gets overlooked.”
