General Attorney | San Jose, Costa Rica

CloudPay are looking for a General Attorney to join our growing team in San Jose, Costa Rica.

The role will be responsible for all legal corporate and commercial aspects of the business. This principally involves:

  • Involvement in and often leading the negotiation of customer and supplier contracts
  • Interpreting the legal and contract responsibilities of the business and assisting in their implementation
  • Working closely with the Compliance team
  • Reviewing and implementing company’s data privacy obligations across the Americas

Attributes and Experience Required:

  • Qualified solicitor with post qualification experience in general commercial law
  • Pays attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to work with people at all levels
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English in written as well as spoken form
  • Prior experience of working in a technology environment would be an advantage
  • Prior experience of working in an international business, particularly with a focus on the US, would be an advantage


Daily Duties and Main Responsibilities Will Include:


  • Negotiation of contracts with prospects, customers, partners and vendors, which will require an understanding of the business requirements as well as consultation with the key stakeholders where appropriate, such as Service Delivery and Compliance
  • Keeping contractual documents under review, suggesting improvements and implementing agreed changes


  • Ensure the protection of the company’s intellectual property, including maintenance of trademarks and working with external advisors
  • Provide direction and guidance on data privacy across the Americas, including interpreting any relevant data protection regulations and ensuring that these are reflected in contracts and day to day business operations


  • With assistance from the Compliance Project Administrator, maintenance of the legal records of the business in an organised and easily accessible manner and ensuring that they are complete
  • Instruct and maintain relationships with external counsel
  • Ensuring that the business is kept up to date with changes in law and that its contractual arrangements appropriately reflect any changes.  This includes a requirement to ensure that an appropriate level of legal training and updates are undertaken
  • Provide general expertise and guidance with regards to specific contractual issues and disputes
  • Other ad-hoc duties as requested
